 "description": "CxAVOK draws METAR observations and TAF forecasts as a heatmap over the map, so the weather across a whole region reads at a glance instead of one station at a time.\n\nCAVOK is the abbreviation for Ceiling And Visibility OK: no significant weather, ceiling above 5,000 ft, visibility 10 km or more. In short, great weather for flying.\n\nREGIONAL HEATMAP\nFlight category, ceiling, visibility, wind, or temperature/dew-point spread, interpolated across every reporting station inside a region you centre and size yourself. Stations and the overlay are coloured VFR, MVFR, IFR and LIFR, so a whole area reads in one look.\n\nWORKS OFFLINE\nA global basemap ships inside the app — no map account, no token, no connection. The last weather you fetched stays readable with no signal, and when the service is unreachable the app says so rather than pretending nothing is wrong.\n\nSCRUB THROUGH TIME\nDrag back through the last hours of observations and on to the TAF forecast frame, or press play to animate the loop. A station whose category changed since its previous report carries an arrow, so the map says which way the weather is going, not just where it is.\n\nSTATION DETAILS\nDecoded METAR, the raw report with the group relevant to the current overlay highlighted, a trend chart of the last few hours, observation history, and the TAF.\n\nWEATHER ALONG A ROUTE\nType two or more airports, navaids or US fixes — EFHK-EETN — to draw the great-circle track and read the reporting stations along it in flight order. Airports, heliports, navaids, fixes and runways are drawn on the globe, clustered where they are dense.\n\nWIND BARBS\nOn the wind overlay every station draws a standard barb: half barb 5 kt, full barb 10, pennant 50, still coloured by flight category.\n\nFAVORITES AND NEARBY\nPin the airfields you care about. Stations within 100 km are listed by distance, and when the closest field is not flyable the nearest one that is appears above the list.\n\nBUILT FOR READING QUICKLY\nSwitch off roads, rivers, place names and other basemap detail so nothing competes with the weather. Light, dark or system appearance, with a basemap that follows it. Metric or US units — ceilings stay in feet and winds in knots, as aviation reports them everywhere.\n\nWIDGETS, SIRI AND SHORTCUTS\nHome Screen and Lock Screen widgets show a station's flight category, the age of its report and the wind, or a board of your favorites. Ask Siri for the weather at a station, the nearest VFR field, or the headwind and crosswind for each runway, estimated from the latest METAR. The same actions are in Shortcuts and on the Action button.\n\nALSO INCLUDED\nBackground refresh, so opening the app out of signal shows something recent. Airport search by code or name, worldwide, even for fields that do not report weather.\n\nDATA SOURCES\nWorldwide METAR and TAF from the AviationWeather.gov Data API, and Finnish automatic weather station observations from the Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI), CC BY 4.0.
