Smith, Bradford White, Rheem and several other brands, or uses the build date if the label prints one. For many models, it'll also tell you how long the original warranty ran. And if you ever want to double-check, the app shows you where each answer came from.\n\nWater heater recalls\nA recall notice is easy to miss, so Goody Home checks your model against the Consumer Product Safety Commission's recall notices and shows you the notice if your model is on one. The list is kept on the phone, so the check works offline.\n\nYour home maintenance schedule\nEach piece of equipment gets its own list of jobs, with a short note on why each one matters:\n• Tank water heater: flush the tank, check the anode rod, and test the temperature and pressure relief valve.\n• Tankless water heater: descale the heat exchanger and clean the inlet screen.\n• Water softener: check the salt, clean the brine tank, and have it serviced.\n• Backflow preventer: the yearly test by a licensed tester.\n• Water filter: change the cartridge on the schedule you choose.\n\nWater softener salt reminders\nTell the app how many people live in the house and when you last added salt, and it'll figure out when the brine tank needs a look. Your phone reminds you that day, so you don't have to keep checking.\n\nFreeze warnings and frozen pipes\nEnter your ZIP code or town, and Goody Home checks the National Weather Service forecast for the next seven nights and tells you if a freeze is coming and how cold it'll get. Official freeze warnings show first, and you'll get a heads-up at 36° so there's time to get the hoses off. To get your forecast, it turns your ZIP code into map coordinates on your phone and sends only those to the National Weather Service. The label reader runs on your phone and never uploads your photo, though it does send Google basic diagnostics, like the app version and how long a read took. Nothing else leaves your phone unless you send it.\n\nForecast data comes from the National Weather Service (weather.gov).
