On a Mac, a network share or a disk image works too. No cloud, no account, nothing uploaded.\n\nWhat you get\n\nAdds only what is new. Each file is fingerprinted, so nothing is copied twice.\n\nPlain folders by year and month. Any computer can open them, without SalvaFoto.\n\nVerifies the archive against checksums, not just file names. The full check uses SHA-256.\n\nRestores into Photos without duplicating what is already there. By default a device brings back only what it put into the archive.\n\nFree Up Space removes from the device only items whose archived copy is proven complete: checksum, size, and companion files (Live Photo video and the edited version). Files on the drive are left untouched. In Photos the items go to Recently Deleted and are erased after 30 days. Favourites can stay on the device.\n\nOne drive for iPhone and Mac. Each device keeps its own copy, and the Archive shows it first; the other device's copy is one tap away. If the drive already holds an archive from the other device, SalvaFoto matches the files and does not copy them again.\n\nProgress on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island while a copy runs.\n\nFree for an archive of up to 500 photos and videos. The full version is a one-time purchase that removes the limit on iPhone, iPad and Mac with the same Apple ID. No subscription, no ads.\n\nOptional: copy new items when the archive drive is connected. Adding only — nothing is deleted or overwritten.\n\nHow it works\n\n1. Connect a drive and allow access to Photos. On iPhone that means an SSD, a flash drive or an SD card. On a Mac, also a network share or a disk image. The Mac's own disk is not accepted: a copy there is lost with the Mac.\n2. SalvaFoto compares the library with the archive and copies only new originals, in their original format.\n3. Verify the archive, restore into Photos, or free space on the device once the copies check out.\n\nWho it is for\n\nAnyone who wants the originals on hardware they hold, without a subscription. Photographers keeping RAW and HEIC. Families keeping a disk in a drawer.\n\nOn a Mac, an iPhone connected by cable can copy straight to the drive, without using space on the Mac or mixing with the computer’s library.\n\nPrivacy\n\nSalvaFoto collects no data. There is no account, no analytics, no advertising and no crash reporter, and the app has no servers of its own. Photos move only between your device and the drive you choose.\n\nIf the library uses iCloud Photos, Photos may download originals from iCloud while SalvaFoto reads them. That transfer is performed by Apple.\n\nWhat you need\n\niPhone and iPad: iOS 17 or later, and an external drive (USB-C or Lightning flash drive, SSD, or SD card reader). In the Files picker, open Locations and choose the drive. Internal storage is not accepted: a copy that lives on the same phone does not protect you if the phone is lost.\n\nMac: macOS 14 or later, and an external drive, a network share or a disk image.\n\nFormat the drive as APFS or exFAT. FAT32 cannot write files larger than 4 GB, which often includes 4K video.\n\nFull Access to Photos is required to copy the whole library.
