"description": "Shot and Tell takes a screenshot and lets you annotate it. Drop a numbered marker on something, draw an arrow at it, or box a whole section off. Type a line against each number, and you get back one image with the legend beside it.\n\nWHAT IT’S FOR\n\n“The button on the right — no, the other one, above the total” is a sentence nobody should have to write. Put a number on the thing instead, say what’s wrong with it underneath, and there is nothing left to misread.\n\nWho’s reading it doesn’t change much:\n\nAn AI agent gets the picture and the words together. A number on the screenshot and the same number in the prompt says exactly which part you mean, so it understands you straight away.\n\nA colleague gets the design feedback, the bug report or the “check this before it ships” as one image — and every point already has a number to reply to.\n\nA customer or a supplier gets “here’s the screen, here’s the field I mean”, with anything that isn’t their business blacked out before the image leaves your Mac.\n\nHOW IT GOES\n\n1. Press ⌃⇧S from any app, click the Dock icon, or pick New Capture from the menu bar. Drag out a region, click a window, or take a whole screen. Space swaps between dragging and picking a window, and a magnifier shows the exact pixel under the crosshair so you land on an edge rather than near it. There’s a 3, 5 or 10 second timer for when you need a menu open first.\n\n2. Mark it up. Drop a numbered marker, drag out an arrow, or box off a whole area — each one gets the next number in the sequence. The cursor lands in the legend row the moment a mark does, so you type the description straight away and move on.\n\n3. Drag redaction blocks over anything that shouldn’t leave your machine.\n\n4. Copy & Close puts the finished image on the clipboard and saves a PNG. Paste it into a prompt, a pull request, a ticket, a chat or an email. Paste into a text field instead and the words arrive on their own.\n\nONE NUMBER, ONE MEANING\n\nPins, arrows and boxes share a single sequence, in the order you made them. Delete ② and everything after it renumbers, on the picture and in the legend. Reorder with ⌥⌘↑ and ⌥⌘↓.\n\nTHE WORDS TRAVEL WITH THE PICTURE\n\nCopying can put the legend on the clipboard as text at the same time as the image, so the picture and the words arrive together. ⇧⌘C copies just the legend — a title and a numbered list.\n\nREDACT BEFORE YOU SHARE\n\nRedaction blocks are painted into the exported image as solid fill. Whatever was underneath isn’t in the file and isn’t on the clipboard.\n\nMADE TO LOOK RIGHT\n\nMarks can sit in the background beside the screenshot, for when the thing you’re marking is right on an edge. Eight marker colours and a custom picker, four gradients and three flat tones for the background, light or dark following the system. Long legends flow into columns instead of running off the bottom.\n\nIT CAN’T PHONE HOME\n\nShot and Tell ships without the network entitlement, so it cannot open a network connection at all. No account, no analytics, no uploads, no update checks. Your screenshots stay on your Mac.\n\nFree, no in-app purchases, no ads, no upsell. The source is on GitHub under the MIT licence.\n\nRequires an Apple Silicon Mac running macOS 26 or newer. macOS will ask for Screen Recording permission the first time you take a shot.",
