Cannonwake: Pirate Sea Battle
Not claimedYour cannons don't turn
By Ramazan Volkan SARIBULBUL · GamesWhy we expect it: The hull-steering aiming mechanic is clever, and the fixed levels and upgrade draws give this pirate battler real depth.
About
Your cannons don't turn. Your ship does.
Cannonwake is a top down pirate ship battle game set in a warm archipelago. One thumb steers, the other fires, and the guns are bolted to the sides of the hull, so aiming means putting the right beam on the right target at the right moment. Each battery reloads on its own. When the starboard guns are spent you don't wait for them. You come about and give the enemy the port side.
Catch two hostile ships on opposite beams and fire both at once. That is the double broadside, and every other part of this naval battle game is built around earning it.
AIM WITH YOUR HULL There is no aiming stick. You steer, and your crew fires whichever broadside has a target. Islands stop cannonballs. Narrow channels decide who gets the first shot. A pirate ship that is turning is a pirate ship that is reloading.
EVERY LEVEL IS A FIXED SEA Level 40 is the same level 40 on every attempt and on every device, so an archipelago that sank you on Tuesday is one you can learn and beat on Thursday. Chapters of ten levels, and the sea has no end.
THREE STARS ON EVERY LEVEL Clear it. Finish above half hull. Finish under par time. Three stars is a different game from one star.
SIX SEAS, SEVEN HOSTILE CREWS Open Waters, Broken Isles, Crossroads, Twin Channels, Fortress Sea and Reef Maze, each a different shape of sea battle. Seven classes of pirate ship sail against you, from darting skiffs to the armoured Dread Galleon and the elite Iron Captain, and they hunt in teams of up to three.
A DIFFERENT SHIP EVERY VOYAGE Before each level you draw one of three upgrades, for that attempt alone: more cannonballs per volley, chain shot that leaps between hulls, powder kegs that detonate, piercing rounds, faster reloads, a sharper rudder. Seventeen in all, and no two runs stack the same way.
THE SHIPYARD KEEPS WHAT YOU BUY Gold from sunken ships buys permanent upgrades to cannons, hull, rigging, rudder, powder and salvage, three tiers each, and they carry across every voyage. Daily challenges pay for them faster.
SAIL UNDER YOUR OWN COLOURS Hulls and sails, earned with gold or bought once. Every hull trim trades one strength for another, so a look is also a decision.
PLAYS OFFLINE Every level runs offline, with no connection needed. No energy bar, no lives, nothing to wait for. Only ads and purchases use the network.
Free to play, with optional ads you choose to watch and one time purchases that stay bought. A naval battle game that plays offline, in 18 languages.
