About

Every climber has heard the folklore: "factor two is deadly," "the top piece feels one and a half times the fall," "a rope is dead after one big whip." Climbing ropes calc replaces the folklore with arithmetic you can check. Climbing ropes calc fits a force–strain curve to the two numbers printed on every dynamic rope — rated impact force and rated elongation — then solves the energy balance for any fall you can describe. Set the climber's mass, how far above the last piece you are, the slack in the system, and how much rope is out. The workbench answers with peak force on the rope, elongation, stretch in metres, energy absorbed in joules, the load on the top piece, and what it all means for the rope's remaining life. The Seek tab inverts the same equations. Pick a force ceiling and Climbing ropes calc tells you the tallest fall that stays under it, the fall factor it corresponds to, and the shortest rope that keeps a given fall acceptable. The System tab follows the force past the rope: which protection piece is overloaded, how a two-point anchor splits (or doubles) the load as the angle opens, and how friction multiplies tension around a carabiner. The Log keeps the history: every saved fall with the numbers it was calculated from, per-rope energy budgets measured against the rope's rated drops, and a one-page PDF report you can share. Reference holds edited datasheets for 14 dynamic ropes, knot strength conventions, protection ratings, and the tables behind every claim. Climbing ropes calc is an educational calculator. It is not a substitute for instruction, certification, or the manufacturer's instructions. Climbing is dangerous. Get proper training, inspect your gear, and never let an app make safety decisions for you.
