Coach Jim: Gym Workout Tracker
Not claimedYou've got better things to do at the gym than math
By Marianne TORREBORRE · Health and fitnessWhy we expect it: Clear value, a careful description, and a familiar spreadsheet hook make this a strong debut for lifters.
In short
Coach Jim: Gym Workout Tracker is a workout logger for iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch that pre-fills each session from your last one, calculates plate loads for your own equipment, and adjusts weights and reps after each exercise. It suits lifters who currently track sets in a spreadsheet. Standout: the Apple Watch mode lets you log an entire session from your wrist, with heart rate saved to Apple Health.

You've got better things to do at the gym than math. Coach Jim takes care of it, so you can stay on your set.
If you track your training in a spreadsheet, you'll feel at home: your sets, weights and PRs are all there. You just stop filling in cells mid-workout, and the progression works itself out. You had your spreadsheet; Jim has his notebook, and he keeps it for you.
Your workout is ready when you walk in Today's weights and reps are already set, based on what you did last time. Open the app, tap Start, and go.
The plate math is done Jim knows your equipment: your bars, plates, dumbbells and machine stacks. He draws the bar with what goes on each side, and he'll never ask for a weight you can't actually load.
One tap per set Tap Done and rest starts on its own. Put your phone down; it buzzes and beeps when it's time. The countdown stays on your Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island, and the screen won't go to sleep mid-workout.
Or leave your phone in your bag With Apple Watch, the whole session happens on your wrist. Your set shows up, you adjust reps or weight with the Digital Crown, confirm, and rest counts down. How it felt is one tap. Your heart rate is saved with the session in Apple Health. Your iPhone keeps everything, so if the watch drops out, nothing is lost.
Next time adjusts itself After each exercise, Jim sets up the next session: a bit heavier, one more rep, or hold steady. He listens to how it felt, backs off when you stall, and eases you back in after a break. If you want to know why, he'll tell you in one line. And you can always change a number.
He thinks of the little things He plans warm-up sets on the big lifts, handles supersets, circuits and timed planks, and reminds you of the form cues when you're unsure. You can jot down your bench setting, swap an exercise when the machine is taken, and get a reminder on training days.
He notices your progress, and you can show it off Your first 225, the plateau that finally gives: Jim spots them and tells you. One tap turns a session, a PR or your progress into a clean image, signed by Jim, ready for your stories or the gym group chat. Your charts, PRs and weekly sets per muscle are there whenever you want them.
Free, really Everything you read here is free, with no ads, and you don't even need an account. Your data stays on your phone and exports in one tap. Sessions can go to Apple Health if you like.
