In short

Curling Split Time Camera turns an iPhone into an automatic split-time clock that times each stone as it crosses two zones on the lines, with no extra hardware. It is aimed at curlers who want consistent delivery and stone-speed data, and it speaks each result aloud so players can hear it through headphones. A standout detail is that the timer rearms itself after every stone, so no button presses are needed.

About

Every good curling practice starts with knowing your times. Curling Split Time Camera turns your iPhone into a fully automatic split-time clock, with no laser or infrared barriers and no other equipment to buy: no buttons to press, no one needed to hold a stopwatch. Two zones on the lines, and every delivery is timed the moment the stone crosses them.

COMPLETELY HANDS-FREE

Set up your iPhone once and focus on your game. The camera detects the stone automatically, a beep marks each crossing and the time is read aloud in your language. Wear AirPods or other headphones: a rink is usually too loud to hear the iPhone's speaker from the hack. You hear your result while still in the slide or sweeping, and "Ready" tells you the timer is armed for the next stone.

WHY TIMES MATTER

Consistent deliveries are built on numbers, not guesswork. Two measurements are essential for effective training:

• Back line to hog line: your delivery time. It shows how consistent your slide and release are, shot after shot. • Hog line to hog line: the stone's travel time. It tells you the weight of the shot and helps sweepers and skips judge speed.

NO EXTRA EQUIPMENT

Laser and infrared timing barriers are expensive and rare. Curling Split Time Camera gives every player and team real data with the phone already in their pocket.

SETUP

1. Mount your iPhone ideally on a gate standing over the stone's path, or else on a tripod beside it, on the ice facing the player so the stones travel toward the camera, at least 1½ m (5 ft) above the ice for a clear view of the lines. 2. Drag the two bars, up and down or sideways, onto the lines you want to time between. A stone trips a zone the instant it reaches the bar's green top edge, so place the green edge exactly on the line. 3. Put in your AirPods or headphones, tap Start, wait for "Ready" and throw. The clock starts at the first zone, stops at the second, and the time is spoken. The timer rearms itself for the next stone.

FEATURES

• Frame-exact timing: the time is taken from the exact video frame of each crossing. • Tuned to your rink: adjust the motion threshold and the debounce frames to match the lighting and distance of any sheet. A live signal meter in each zone shows how close it is to triggering. • Upright or sideways: see more of the sheet's length or its whole width. • Beep optional: switch it off with the bell button on the setup screen; the spoken time stays. • Built-in help: mounting, placement, calibration and the beep are explained in the app.
