About
Ebooks Player is an ebook reader that shows books one word at a time (rapid serial visual presentation), with the middle letter of each word in red. No account or sign-in is needed.
To try it with a free book: 1. On the first screen, tap "Free books" (or the "+" button at the top right, then "Add free online library") and choose Project Gutenberg. 2. Select the new Project Gutenberg library in the row at the top, then tap "Browse titles". 3. Tap any book, for example "Pride and Prejudice", then tap Download. 4. Tap Done, then tap the book in the library to open it. 5. Tap Play. Tap the "wpm" button to change speed. Pause and swipe the word sideways to step through words.
Eye pause (optional): in the reader, tap the eye button at the top. The app asks for camera access and then pauses reading when the user closes their eyes or looks away, and continues when they look back. Frames are processed on the device with ARKit or Vision and are never stored or transmitted.
Content: books come from the user's own files, from Project Gutenberg (public domain in the U.S.), and from Wolne Lektury (CC BY-SA, with attribution shown in the app). The app doesn't sell or unlock any content.
Network: the app contacts gutendex.com, gutenberg.org and wolnelektury.pl to browse and download free books, and googleapis.com (Google Books) to find a cover for books that don't have one. It has no server of its own and collects no data.
