In short

Friendly Bible is a reading app with four translations: the King James Version, the Geneva Bible, the American Standard Version, and the World English Bible. It is aimed at people who want a plain, distraction-free Bible with offline reading, verse notes, and search. One standout feature is Plain English, which renders older wording into modern English beneath the original text on supported devices.

About

Friendly Bible is the King James Bible and three more classic translations, in a clean reader built for reading.

No accounts, no ads, no feeds, no streaks. Open it and read.

FOUR TRANSLATIONS, ONE PLACE • King James Version (1611). The English Bible most people know. • Geneva Bible (1599). The Bible of Shakespeare and the Pilgrims, kept in its original spelling. • American Standard Version (1901). The careful American revision of the KJV. • World English Bible. A modern-English update of the ASV.

Switch translations from any chapter and you stay on the same verse. Your notes and your reading place follow you, because they belong to the verse and not to the edition.

PLAIN ENGLISH Select a verse or a passage in the KJV, Geneva, or ASV and tap Plain English. It renders the old wording into modern English, right beneath the text it came from. "Conversation" becomes conduct, "prevent" becomes go before, "letteth" becomes restrains. It translates what is on the page. It doesn't add commentary or tell you what to believe.

Plain English runs entirely on your device using Apple Intelligence. Nothing you read or select is sent anywhere.

FIND ANYTHING • Type a reference like John 3:16 or Psalm 23 to jump straight there. • Search the words of all 66 books at once. • Browse the Old and New Testaments book by book, with a chapter grid for each. • Continue Reading takes you back to where you left off.

NOTES Select any verse and add a note. Your notes are gathered in one searchable list, ordered by book, chapter, and verse. Export them all as a single text document whenever you like, so they are always yours.

READS LIKE THE BIBLE Verse numbers sit inline, as in a printed Bible. Psalms, Proverbs, Job, and the other poetic books are set one verse to a line. Everything else flows as prose.

PRIVATE BY DESIGN The whole Bible is inside the app, so it works offline: on a plane, underground, anywhere. The app collects no personal data at all.

Plain English requires a device that supports Apple Intelligence. Everything else works on any iPhone or iPad running iOS 26.
