In short

HexScope is a read-only Mac viewer that shows binary files as hexadecimal bytes with their ASCII text beneath, one page at a time. It suits people who need to explore file contents, with page sizes from 16 to 1024 KiB, bookmarks, search, and export of selected bytes. One notable detail is that it names ASCII control characters such as NUL, LF and CR.

About

Inspect binary files with hexadecimal bytes and their ASCII representation directly underneath. HexScope is a native, read-only viewer for Mac, designed for exploring file contents one page at a time.

READ AND NAVIGATE Choose 16, 32, 64, 256 or 1024 KiB pages. Jump to decimal or hexadecimal offsets, revisit recent files and save named byte bookmarks.

UNDERSTAND EACH BYTE See named ASCII controls such as NUL, LF and CR, with SP for spaces. Consult the built-in reference for all 128 ASCII characters. Switch to UTF-8 display for Chinese characters and emoji, with visible continuation markers across rows and pages.

SEARCH AND EXTRACT Search HEX or ASCII forward or backward. Select ranges, copy HEX or binary, and export selected bytes to another file. Cross-page copying includes only bytes on the current page; exporting includes the full selection. Search stops at file boundaries without wrapping.

EXPLORE TEXT AND NUMBERS Interpret numeric values in little- or big-endian order. Convert text, Chinese characters and emoji to UTF-8, UTF-16 or UTF-32 bytes and inspect Unicode code points.

English and Simplified Chinese interfaces. No account required; byte inspection and reference tools work offline.

Requires macOS 13 or later. HexScope does not edit source files or decode compressed documents into their original text. UTF-8 mode does not automatically detect other encodings; combined emoji are displayed as separate Unicode scalars.
