By Recep Ozen · GamesWhy we expect it: A clear one-thumb roguelite hook with deep stacking upgrades, offline play and a tight fifteen-minute loop makes a compelling debut.
About
Hivebreaker is a space roguelite you play with one thumb.
Drag anywhere to fly. Your guns fire on their own - aiming is not the skill here, staying alive is. Clear twenty waves of an alien swarm, and if you kill the Hive Queen at the end of them, keep going for as long as you can survive.
BUILD A NEW SHIP EVERY RUN Every level you choose one of three upgrade cards, and between waves you spend what you earned in the shop. Sixteen weapons, seven drones and fifty-five cards, and they stack: a rail lance that pierces everything in a line, a coil that chains lightning between bodies, a mortar whose shell collapses into a gravity well and drags the swarm into it. No two runs end up the same.
THREE SECTORS THAT FIGHT DIFFERENTLY The Kla'ed fire straight, and that is the game every pilot learns first. The Nairan fire slower shots that follow you, so standing still is what gets you hit. The Nautolan fire shots that snake down through a belt of drifting rock. Win in one sector to open the next.
RUNS THAT ARE OVER IN MINUTES A run takes about fifteen minutes and ends when your hull does. The coins you earned stay with you: new ships to fly, and six threat levels for anyone who finds it too easy.
WHAT IS IN IT - 5 ships, each with a different speed, hull and passive - 16 weapons and 55 upgrade cards - 7 drones that fly beside you and fight on their own - 11 enemy types, 2 elites and 2 bosses - 20 waves, then an endless run that does not stop - 22 achievements - A global leaderboard, and your own best kept on the device
PLAYS ANYWHERE No account and no sign-in. It runs offline - your score is sent the next time you have a connection. Portrait, one hand, and it pauses itself when you put it down.
Hivebreaker is free. It shows an ad between some runs, and offers you others to watch by choice - to keep flying after your ship falls, or to double what a run paid. You never have to watch one.
