Hottub PDF is a native Mac app for reading, marking up, filling in and organizing PDFs — and it says plainly what it did to a document and what it could not guarantee.

MARK UP AND FILL IN • Highlight, underline and strike through text • Notes, text boxes, callouts, shapes, arrows, clouds, freehand drawing, links and stamps — move, resize and restyle them • Type into form fields in place, tick boxes and choose options; password-protected forms stay protected when saved

ORGANIZE • Insert, delete, reorder, rotate, crop, extract and replace pages, combine files, and split every few pages or at each bookmark • Watermarks, headers, footers and page numbers, each removable later • Make scanned documents searchable with on-device text recognition

FOR LEGAL WORK • Redaction you can check: mark text, areas or pages, or search for names and Social Security, employer ID, phone, email and card numbers. Applying writes a new copy with the marked text and pixels removed, reads it back, and refuses to save if anything is left under a mark. • Bates numbering across a whole production, with copies named by Bates range and a production log • Exhibits assembled with slip sheets, stickers and bookmarks • Protective-order legends, privilege stamps and pleading line numbers • Check a brief against federal CM/ECF, Supreme Court, California or Florida filing rules, then save a filing copy with the fixes made • PDF/A copies for archiving and tagged PDF/UA copies for screen readers — a copy claims to conform only when its checks pass

BUILT FOR DOCUMENTS THAT MATTER • Every change is added to the file rather than rewritten into it, so the original stays intact and Undo restores it exactly • A document report shows fonts that aren’t embedded, pages without searchable text, and damage that had to be repaired • Password-protected PDFs open with their password, and their printing and copying restrictions are honored
