About

Huzur Vakti brings prayer times, the qibla, the Hijri calendar and the Qur'an together in one app. No ads, no account, no sign-up.

■ PRAYER TIMES Times are computed on your own phone, with the method used by your country's own religious authority (Diyanet for Türkiye, JAKIM for Malaysia, Karachi for Pakistan, and so on). 90 countries and 600 cities are listed. No internet connection is required: the app works completely offline.

For Diyanet and JAKIM the authority's own published timetable is downloaded a few times a year and kept on the device, so you get the official source itself rather than an approximation of it.

■ ADHAN NOTIFICATION An adhan notification is set for every prayer. You can silence any prayer you like and add a reminder as many minutes ahead as you want. Notifications are scheduled with the iPhone's own notification system, exact to the minute; no server and no push service is involved, and they stay in place after a restart. iPhone limits how many notifications an app can schedule ahead, so the adhan is set for the coming days and extended every time you open the app; a reminder arrives before they run out. iPhone keeps notification sounds short, so the opening of the adhan plays with the alert.

■ QIBLA The iPhone compass reads true north, so the qibla angle needs no correction. There is also the sun method, which does not use the compass at all: put the sun behind you and turn by the angle shown.

■ THE QUR'AN The Arabic text is a faithful copy of the Tanzil Project. The meaning is shown in your own language: English by Marmaduke Pickthall, with translations in nine other languages. Surah recitations can be downloaded and listened to offline.

■ HIJRI CALENDAR AND HOLY DAYS The Hijri date, the holy days ahead and how many days are left; fasting times in the Ramadan timetable.

■ DHIKR COUNTER A counter with undo and reset, and haptic feedback.

■ PRAYER TRACKING AND MISSED PRAYERS Daily prayer tracking with a streak counter, and a ledger for missed (qada) prayers.

■ NEARBY MOSQUES Mosques near you from OpenStreetMap data, with distances and a directions link.

■ HOME SCREEN AND LOCK SCREEN WIDGETS Four home screen widgets: the next prayer with the time remaining, a standard view, all of today's times, and the verse of the day; and the next prayer on the lock screen. They move on by themselves as each prayer comes in.

■ 11 LANGUAGES English, Turkish, Arabic, Persian, Urdu, Indonesian, Malay, Bengali, French, Russian and Swahili, with right-to-left layout for Arabic, Persian and Urdu.
