About
All 189 volcanoes, trip plans, the map, safety and the games live inside the app and work without internet. Offline, only the weather forecast, the satellite map and route notices stop updating.
THREE WAYS TO START Planning a trip — open the ready plans for 3, 5, 7 and 10 days and the “when to go” calendar: each month shows what is open. Already in Kamchatka — the Today screen gives sunrise and sunset, the month’s weather norms, notices from the regional Ministry of Tourism and what you can reach from where you are. On the road — five games and 54 stamps; some stamps can be earned before you fly.
ALL 189 VOLCANOES 22 active, 42 dormant, 125 extinct — from Klyuchevskoy (4,754 m, the highest active volcano in Eurasia) to cones known only to volcanologists. Height, type, year of the last eruption, distance from Petropavlovsk. 58 volcanoes have a description, the 28 main ones also have facts; eruption figures are computed from the Smithsonian database, not typed by hand. Five have official ascent passports: season, time, grade, water and signal. Search, sorting and an “ascent available” filter.
A MAP THAT NEEDS NO SIGNAL A satellite map with every volcano, town and destination. “Near me” shows the distance to the closest mountains. Offline, a schematic map with the peninsula outline and main roads draws itself.
13 PLACES PEOPLE GO The Valley of Geysers, Uzon caldera, Kurile Lake, Nalychevo, Mutnovsky, Gorely, Vachkazhets, the Blue Lakes, Vilyuchinsky waterfall, Khalaktyrsky beach, the Three Brothers, Tolbachik’s Dead Forest, the Commander Islands. How to get there, when, whether a permit is needed, how far — straight line or by road. Filters: no helicopter, no permit, day trip from the city. 10 towns and villages with photos, 6 UNESCO-listed protected areas.
NATURE AND PEOPLE 8 animals — brown bear, orca, sea otter, Steller’s sea eagle — and when to look for them. 7 berries with picking seasons. 5 hot springs. 5 indigenous peoples: self-name, language, where they live, festivals. 7 legends, each with its recorded source, and a story of how we know them. 44 terms in plain language.
SAFETY AND PRACTICAL GUIDE Bears, volcanoes, earthquakes and tsunamis, hypothermia, ticks and water, permits, registering with the rescue service — from official guidelines with sources. The 112 emergency number on the first screen. Flights, transport, money, signal. Food — from chinook and crab to yukola and tolkusha, where to eat, what to bring home and the caviar export rules. Beyond volcanoes: rafting, sea trips, surfing, fishing, snowmobiles, dog sleds, heli-skiing. A family-trip screen: what each section says about age.
GAMES AND STAMPS Bear Trail: a bear runs from the Three Brothers to Klyuchevskoy collecting berries. Kamchatka Bilberry Glade: a berry bush on a real calendar, finding berries by scent, sorting and a kitchen. A quiz — about volcanoes, or animals and berries. Higher or Lower, and Where Is It? 54 stamps for places visited, animals met, paths walked, cards read and game records.
THE PLAIN FACTS The app is free. No advertising, no accounts, no analytics. The only purchases are voluntary thank-yous to the developer, and they unlock nothing. Your check-ins stay on the device and, with iCloud on, in your private iCloud. Nothing reaches the developer: there is no server. Map tiles are loaded by Apple Maps. The weather forecast for Petropavlovsk comes from Open-Meteo and route notices from the app’s support page; the requests carry nothing about you. Location is used only when you tap “Near me” or “From my location”.
Volcano data: Global Volcanism Program, Smithsonian Institution. Climate norms: ERA5. Coordinates: OpenStreetMap. Photographs: Wikimedia Commons and iNaturalist under free licences, each credited.
A private app, not affiliated with government bodies, reserves or tour companies. Check official sources before travelling — linked under “Sources”.
