It stands out for its no-account design, which keeps likes, saved words, and settings on the device.

Lingo is a calm way to discover and understand English slang. Each word fills the screen: swipe up for the next one, tap to flip it, and finally understand what everyone means. ONE WORD AT A TIME Tap the speaker to hear how it's pronounced. The front of each card shows the word, its pronunciation (IPA) and a short, clear meaning. Flip it for an example sentence, where the word comes from, a fun fact and the emoji people often use with it. Origins and fun facts only appear when they are well supported by sources. MADE FOR YOU • Like a word to see more like it, or dislike it to see fewer. • Save words and search them in Settings. • Search any word with the magnifying glass. • Choose from more than 60 topics, from gaming and dating to memes, pop culture, retro classics and British slang. • Filter by the ages of the people who typically use a word, from teen slang to classics like “groovy”. • Lingo remembers what you have seen. When you have seen every word, start over with one tap. • Turn on Word of the day for one new word every day. Tap the notification to open it • Strong language is hidden by default. You decide if you want to see it. SHARE A WORD Turn any word into a full-screen image in your theme, with both sides of the card and the Lingo logo. Save it to Photos or send it to a friend. THEMES Pick from 20 themes, light or dark. Keeping a new theme means watching one short ad. NO ACCOUNT There is nothing to sign up for. Your likes, saved words and settings stay on your iPhone. A NOTE ON CONTENT Slang includes swear words and sexual references. Lingo explains them in a neutral, dictionary-like way, and hides them unless you turn off “Hide strong language”. The age ranges in the app describe who typically uses a word, not who the app is for. Lingo is free and supported by ads, which are always clearly labeled. Questions or feedback?
