Mohs – Rock Identifier

Mohs identifies rocks, minerals and crystals from a photo, and tells you honestly how sure it is.

WHAT MOHS DOES • Three best guesses with a confidence level, instead of one overconfident answer. • When it isn't sure, a quick home test settles it: scratch the stone with a coin or a knife, rub it on the back of a tile to see its streak, try a drop of vinegar or a fridge magnet. Your answers re-rank the results. • 300+ species pages: what it is, how to tell it apart from its look-alikes, where it's found, a broad value range and safety notes. • Your collection: save every find with its photo, notes and the place you found it, as a list and on a map. It stays on your phone.

HONEST BY DESIGN • 3 free scans every day. No account needed. • Mohs Pro gives you up to 40 scans a day. Monthly or yearly, with the price on screen before you start. The yearly plan has a one-week free trial, and Mohs offers to remind you two days before it ends. • Value is only shown as a broad range: Mohs can't appraise a specimen.

TIPS FOR A GOOD RESULT Fill the frame with the stone, use daylight without flash, wet the surface and, if you can, show a freshly broken face.
