By Callum MacLellan · Music and audioWhy we expect it: Tobar offers a thoughtful, clearly explained way for Scottish sound archive fans to organise and share their finds.
About
Tobar helps you keep track of the songs, tunes and interviews you find on Tobar an Dualchais and rareTunes, the Scottish sound archives.
• Browse each archive's pages inside the app, search them, and play recordings on the archive's own page in a window you can close at any time. • Save single recordings, areas, pages and search results as bookmarks. • Sort them into your own folders, tags and playlists. Drag a bookmark onto a folder or playlist, or use the menu. • Rate them with stars, and filter by year, language and type. • Mark each recording as Gàidhlig, Beurla or Scots. • Keep your own notes and lyrics, and copy or share links. • Sync between iPhone, iPad and Mac through your own iCloud. There is no Tobar account.
Collecting recordings yourself? Record a song, tune or interview, describe it, print a short plain-language consent form, add the signed form, and prepare everything as a package ready to offer to an archive. Recorded audio stays on the device that made it.
Tobar is an independent app. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by Tobar an Dualchais or rareTunes. Recordings are played from the archives' own websites and are never downloaded or copied by the app. Recordings belong to their holders; please see each archive's terms of use.
