In short

Wonderful DiskMap draws a chosen folder as a map of nested rectangles, each sized by the disk space its file occupies, so large files stand out at a glance. It is aimed at Mac users who want to find out where their storage went, and it shows locations in the Finder without deleting anything itself. Its standout feature is that it reads only file metadata and has no account, telemetry, or network code.

About

See where your disk space went. Wonderful DiskMap draws a folder as a map: every file becomes a rectangle sized by what it occupies, nested by folder, so a single 60 GB blob is impossible to miss.

HOW IT WORKS - Choose a folder. The map is up in seconds; a full home folder with millions of files takes about a minute. - Click a folder to zoom in, use the breadcrumb or Backspace to come back out. - Hover anything for its full path, its size and its share of what you are looking at. - Right-click to reveal it in the Finder. The map tells you where the space went; the Finder is where you do something about it. - Colour by file type: video, images, audio, archives, code, documents, data, apps.

GETTING THE NUMBER RIGHT Sizes are allocated blocks, what actually costs you space and what the terminal's du reports. Hardlinks are counted once. Symlinks are counted but never followed. Firmlinks on the system volume are recognised so nothing is counted twice. App bundles, photo libraries and sparse bundles are drawn as one tile. After every scan the total is compared with what the volume itself reports as used, and you are told when APFS clones or snapshots make the sum larger than the disk.

WHAT IT DELIBERATELY DOES NOT DO It does not delete anything. There is no "clean up" button, no cache cleaner, no recommendations. It shows you where the space is and hands you to the Finder. It has no account, no telemetry, no analytics and no network code at all.

PERMISSIONS The app only reads file metadata: names, sizes, dates. It never opens a file's contents. You choose which folder it may look at. Some protected locations in your Library stay invisible unless you grant Full Disk Access in System Settings; the app tells you after a scan how many entries it could not read.

Requires macOS 13 or newer on a Mac with Apple silicon. English and German.
