Family Recipe Vault

Recipe Vault is our family's cookbook: a private app for the Sugarman and Gelman family and the people we cook with. If you're here, Jason sent you the link.

Anyone with the app can browse the whole vault and cook from it. Adding recipes, favorites, notes and the made log needs a personal invite from Jason.

THE VAULT More than 760 recipes: Great-Grandma Miriam and Grandma Nancy's cookbook, Grandpa Jon's collection, Jason and Rachel's old blog, a few cookbook recipes modified to be Jason's own because Sebastian and Ronan are...particular. Each has a family photo of the dish or an ink-and-watercolor drawing, and the scanned page it came from, where there is one. Search by title, ingredient or source. Once it has synced, the vault works with no connection.

ON THE PAGE Scale any recipe to ½×, 2× or 3×. Quantities and gram weights change; can and pan sizes don't. Before you start lists the oven, the long waits and any choices the recipe asks you to make, so nothing surprises you halfway through.

COOK MODE Big step text you can read from two feet away. Tap the right side of the screen with a knuckle to go on, the left to go back. Each step starts with what to gather for it, as a checklist. Start timers from any step: each rings with its own sound, and the nearest one shows on the lock screen as a Live Activity. On an iPad turned on its side, what to gather sits on the left and the step on the right.

THE FAMILY'S OWN Notes, favorites and the made log are shared with everyone in the family. Finish a cook and the recipe's made count goes up by one.

ADD A RECIPE Take photos of a cookbook page, choose a screenshot, paste text, or share a link from Safari or another app. The vault reads it into a draft, and nothing is saved until you look it over and tap Save.

AND A shopping list that adds up the same ingredient across recipes and sends to Reminders. Nutrition facts, estimated from USDA data. Printing. No ads.
