Transect: Rangeland Monitor

Transect makes rangeland and pasture monitoring quick, repeatable, and easy to compare year to year.

Set up a permanent transect line in each field, then walk it on every visit. At each point, tap the cover type (vegetation, litter, rock, or bare ground), tap the nearest grass, and set its height. Transect keeps count, tallies the results, and builds a report when you finish.

WALK THE LINE • Big buttons for cover type, nearest grass, and height that are easy to use in the field • Built-in field guide with photos and field marks for common range grasses • "Identify This Grass" questions narrow down a plant by seed head and growth form • Map of every point so you stay on the line

SET UP EACH FIELD ONCE • Record GPS start position, landmark notes, and a start photo to help you find the spot next time • Get suggested grasses for that spot from the USDA-NRCS soil survey and ecological site descriptions • Build your own species list, and share it with other people who use Transect

SEE WHAT'S CHANGING • Visit reports with cover composition and species frequency • Trend reports that compare two visits side by side • Cycle reports across all your fields • Clipping entries for forage and biomass estimates

KEEP YOUR LOGS • Rainfall log by month, with optional fill-in from historical weather data • Grazing log with dates, livestock class, and days grazed

WORKS WITHOUT SIGNAL Everything saves to your device first, so Transect works out in the pasture with no cell service.

YOUR DATA, YOUR CHOICE • Keep it on just this device: no account and no sign-up • Or connect your own free Google Firebase project to share fields and visits across several phones and iPads • Send a single visit or species list to someone by AirDrop, Messages, or Mail • Export spreadsheets (CSV) of hit points, clippings, and transect setup, plus a GPX map of every transect

Transect has no ads, no tracking, and no developer account. We never see your data.
