Atomarium: Periodic Table 3D

Von Christian Esslinger · BildungWarum wir das erwarten: A clear, well-described educational tool that turns the periodic table into explorable 3D atoms and molecules for curious learners.
Info
Atomarium is an exhibit of matter you can hold. Every one of the 118 elements has its own 3D atom to turn, zoom and explore, and the molecule lab shows how atoms join together, why they take the shapes they do, and what that means.
EXPLORE ALL 118 ELEMENTS • A full periodic table on iPad, and a fast searchable list on iPhone. Search by name, symbol or atomic number, and filter by category, block or state. • Open any element to turn a 3D model of its atom: nucleus, electron shells and orbitals. • Electron configuration, atomic mass, group, period, density, melting and boiling points, and when it was discovered. • Property maps colour the table by electronegativity, atomic radius, density, melting or boiling point. • Slide the temperature and watch which elements are solid, liquid or gas. • Compare up to three elements side by side.
ISOTOPES AND IONS • Add or remove neutrons and electrons and see the atom change: carbon-12 becomes carbon-14, sodium becomes Na⁺. • Known isotopes of every element, with half-lives and natural abundance from the IAEA nuclide tables.
THE MOLECULE LAB • Type a formula like H₂O, CH₄ or C₂H₆O, or tap elements to build one. • See it in 3D as electron shells, ball and stick, or space-filling, with lone pairs and labels. • Find out whether it can exist, its shape and bond angles, and whether it's polar. • "Explain the bonding, step by step" walks through valence electrons, bonds, lone pairs and VSEPR shape, highlighting each step on the model. • Same formula, different molecule: discover isomers such as ethanol and dimethyl ether. • When you're online, compounds are named and shown with real 3D structures from PubChem.
BUILD IT YOURSELF • Draw molecules atom by atom with single, double and triple bonds. • Atomarium checks every atom and tells you what you've made. • Undo, redo, and save your structures.
MOLECULES IN AUGMENTED REALITY • Place a molecule on a real table at true-to-scale size (1 ångström = 2.5 cm), then walk around it. • Pinch, rotate and drag it, and tap any atom to see what it is.
STUDY AND PRACTICE • Flashcards and quizzes on symbols, names, atomic numbers, categories and bonding basics. • Spaced review brings back the cards you missed until they stick. • 14 guided molecule challenges, from "Make water" to "Why is water bent?"
CHEMISTRY TUTOR (OPTIONAL IN-APP PURCHASE) Try molar mass free, then unlock the full Tutor with a one-time purchase, no subscription: • Molar mass and percent composition for any formula, including hydrates and ions. • Grams ↔ moles ↔ particles ↔ atoms, written out as conversion factors so you can see the units cancel. • Balance equations in a workspace that counts the atoms on each side as you go. • Stoichiometry, limiting reactant, leftover reactant and percent yield. • Every answer reported to the right significant figures, with the reason. • Practice problems that check your answer and show the full working.
MADE FOR LEARNING, EVERYWHERE • Works offline: all 118 elements, the study tools and a built-in collection of molecules. • Element of the Day widget for your Home Screen. • Favourites, notes and saved structures stay on your device. Export or share them whenever you like. • Built for everyone: VoiceOver support, Larger Text, high contrast and Reduce Motion are all respected.
PRIVATE BY DESIGN No accounts, no ads, no tracking. The only thing that leaves your device is a formula you look up, sent to the free PubChem database to fetch its name and 3D shape.
A NOTE ON MODELS Atoms are shown as stylised Bohr-like models, and the lab uses the Lewis and VSEPR rules taught in school chemistry. They're teaching models, chosen to make chemistry make sense, not exact physical pictures.
Element data: IUPAC, NIST, CRC Handbook of Chemistry and Physics, IAEA. Compound names and structures: PubChem (NCBI).
