Nihotomo

Learn Japanese with friends who are learning too.

Nihotomo takes you from your very first hiragana to everyday conversations. You never study alone: your guide Teach walks you through every lesson, high schoolers Sora and Umi chat with you, quiz you and cheer you on, and more friends join you along the way.

START FROM ZERO • Begin with hiragana and katakana, each one introduced with audio and a simple tip • Move on to greetings, numbers, time, verbs, adjectives, particles and more • Learn around 100 essential kanji with readings and meanings • 39 units, about 200 lessons and over 2,000 questions, covering the JLPT N5 range

LEARN BY DOING • Many question types: multiple choice, listening, dictation, word order, fill in the blank, reading, conversation and more • Every answer comes with a short explanation, so you learn why, not just what • Train your ear with lines voiced by the cast, at normal or slow speed • Type what you hear on a built-in kana keyboard, no Japanese keyboard needed • Practice speaking with pronunciation checks

FIX YOUR MISTAKES • Questions you miss come back for review, so weak spots don't stay weak • Retry missed questions right after a lesson

TRAVEL ALL OF JAPAN • Every lesson you clear moves you further across Japan • Unlock all 47 prefectures, each with its own local notes and trivia • In ten local spots, from Tokyo to Okinawa, step into the scene and talk with the cast in Japanese

BUILD A DAILY HABIT • Short lessons that fit into a few minutes • Daily missions, streaks and achievements to keep you going • Optional study reminders at the time you choose

HANDY REFERENCES • Pronunciation book for every kana sound • Number reference for tricky counting and sound changes • Kanji list with readings and meanings

NIHOTOMO PLUS All lessons are free, always. Nihotomo Plus is an optional subscription for learners who want to go further: • Unlimited lives, so mistakes never stop you mid-lesson • Review until it sticks, with missed questions coming back on a spaced schedule • Unlimited pronunciation checks (free: 5 per day)

Nihotomo Plus is available as a monthly or annual auto-renewing subscription. Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase. The subscription renews automatically unless it is canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, and your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the period ends.
