Dog Walk Weather: Pawvement

Before you pick up the leash: is the pavement hot enough to burn paws, and can your dog handle today's heat?

A weather app shows you the air temperature. Asphalt in the sun can get 20 °C (36 °F) or more hotter than the air, and it stays hot after sunset because it stores the day's heat. Pawvement estimates the pavement temperature hour by hour from sun, cloud, wind and the last 24 hours of weather. It also estimates the heat load on your dog (WBGT, adjusted for your dog's profile), and turns both into a time: walk before this time in the morning, or from this time in the evening.

FREE • One verdict for right now: normal walk likely · short walk, check by hand · shade and grass only, keep it short · not a walk time right now • The time that matters: how long the morning window lasts, and when the evening window likely opens • Estimated pavement temperature next to the air temperature, plus the heat for your dog • Today's walk times as a 24-hour band • Your dog's profile: flat-faced breed, senior, puppy, overweight, thick or dark coat, large or giant breed, heart, breathing or other health condition. Any one of them switches to stricter thresholds • Where you walk: asphalt, concrete, or dirt and grass • Signs of heat stress, shown on hot days

PAWVEMENT PRO (one-time purchase) • Evening release alert: a notification when the evening walk window likely opens on hot days • Morning plan: today's walk times at the time you choose • Tomorrow's walk times • Hour-by-hour pavement vs air curve

No subscription. No ads. No tracking. No account. Your location is rounded on the device before it is sent to fetch the forecast, and it is never stored.

Built to err on the hot side: until you set up your dog's profile, Pawvement uses the stricter heat-sensitive thresholds, and the edges of each time window use a pessimistic estimate.

Pawvement is a forecast-based guide, not veterinary advice. It can be wrong. Before every walk, press the back of your hand on the pavement for 7 seconds, and put your dog's condition first. Heavy panting, thick drool or wobbling means stop: move into the shade, offer water and call a vet.
