Muffle: Mic Mute Button is a Mac utility that makes AirPods stem presses mute the microphone in browsers and call apps that ignore them, such as Zoom, Teams, Slack and FaceTime. It is aimed at people who take calls on a Mac with AirPods and want one mute control across every app. One standout detail is that it cuts the mic at the hardware level, so the other side hears nothing, and it never records or stores audio.

Tietoa

Mute your microphone from anywhere with a press of your AirPods.

On a Mac, browsers and many call apps ignore the AirPods mute press. Muffle makes it work everywhere. During a call, press the stem once to mute and again to unmute, in Chrome, Safari, Zoom, Teams, Slack, FaceTime or any other app.

Muffle turns the microphone itself off at the hardware level, so the other side hears nothing, whatever app you use.

FEATURES • Press your AirPods to mute and unmute during calls • A keyboard shortcut that works everywhere: tap to toggle and hold to talk, or choose push to talk or push to mute • Separate mute and unmute shortcuts, plus a talk key: Right Option, fn or an extra mouse button • A "You're muted" reminder when you start talking while muted • Mutes you again after you stay quiet for the time you choose. Only your voice counts, not typing or background noise • Suggests the best mic for the room, so your AirPods play calls in full quality when it's quiet • Start every call muted, turn the mic back on when a call ends, mute when the screen locks or your headset disconnects • Locks your mic level so call apps can't change it • A mini controller over your call, a green or red glow around the screen, a colored menu bar icon and a confirmation sound you can switch off for each mic • A menu bar panel you arrange yourself, with quick toggles, a live mic level, a mic test and fast microphone switching • Shortcuts actions, muffle:// links for launchers and Stream Deck, and a Control Center button on macOS 26 and later • Works with VoiceOver
