WHAT YOU CAN RECORD • A whole display, including an external monitor • A single window, with its popovers and panels when it's on one display, even when other windows cover it • Any area you draw, with a clear outline so you always know what is being captured

YOUR CAMERA • Add your camera in a bubble; choose the camera and the bubble's shape, size and corner • Save for editing keeps the camera as its own file: place it beside the screen, in a bubble or full screen, and switch layouts during the video • Or choose Share-ready video to record the bubble into one MP4, ready to share

SOUND • System audio, or just the recorded app's sound when you record a window • One microphone of your choice, with a quick input test before you start • Both together, for tutorials and demos

VIDEO QUALITY • 1080p, 4K or Maximum, at 30 or 60 frames per second • H.264 for the widest support, or HEVC for smaller files • A size estimate before you start

EDIT YOUR RECORDINGS • Open the editor from the saved recording, or choose File › Edit a Recording… • A recording saved for editing keeps the video, camera, pointer and each sound apart; Export turns it into a finished MP4 or GIF • Put the video on a background, with padding, rounded corners and a shadow • Choose the shape: 16:9, 9:16, 1:1 or 4:5 • Trim, split, reorder and delete clips on a timeline, and speed parts up or slow them down • Zoom in on any part of the screen, or automatically on your clicks • Restyle the pointer: size, smoothing, motion blur and click sounds (recordings saved for editing) • Blur or pixelate private details, or highlight one area • Add titles, name cards, labels, boxes and arrows • Undo and redo any change

CAPTIONS AND AUDIO • Make captions from what's said in the recording, including sound from the recorded app, in your Mac's language. Speech is recognized on your Mac. • Edit the captions and choose their style • Cut long pauses and filler words, or cut by clicking words in the transcript • Add music from your own files, with fades • Remove background noise from voice-overs with Apple's voice isolation

EXPORT • MP4 in H.264 or HEVC, up to 4K at 60 fps, or a GIF • Captions show in the video and are also saved as a subtitle (.srt) file next to it

EASY CONTROLS • A small floating bar with the timer and Stop • Menu bar controls and a Stop shortcut • Keep the recorder on top while you work • Graphite (dark) and Porcelain (light) looks, or follow your system setting • If a recording stops on its own, the app tells you why and what to do

WORKS WITH AI ASSISTANTS Turn on "Allow local automation" in Settings and AI assistants that support the Model Context Protocol (MCP) can start and stop screen recordings for you, then get the saved video's location. Setup is one paste: copy the setup prompt from Settings into your assistant. Automation is off until you turn it on, it only works on your Mac, and an assistant can never stop or take over a recording you started yourself.

PRIVATE BY DESIGN • No account, no ads, no tracking, no analytics • Screen Recorder saves recordings and edited videos on your Mac and never uploads them • Captions and voice cleanup run on your Mac • Unfinished recordings are kept for recovery instead of being deleted • If something goes wrong, Help › Report a Problem makes a report you can choose to send us

Requires a Mac with Apple silicon and macOS 15 or later. Window recording needs macOS 15.2 or later. Captions are made in your Mac's language, when macOS can recognize it on the device.
