Pourquoi nous l'attendons : Clear value, honest privacy details, and a practical workaround for iOS microphone limits make this a well-considered dictation keyboard.

À propos

Talk instead of typing. Dicteer is a keyboard for your iPhone that turns what you say into clean text, with punctuation and capital letters. It works in apps that allow third-party keyboards, such as WhatsApp, Mail and Notes. Every week you dictate 2,500 words for free, no account needed.

In a 2016 Stanford study, speech recognition input was almost three times as fast as typing: 153 versus 52 words per minute (short English messages on an iPhone, under laboratory conditions). This was not measured with Dicteer.

WHAT YOU GET • Dutch with English words mixed in, the way you really talk • Filler words like "um" removed, also when you correct yourself • Periods, commas and capital letters added for you • Three styles: Casual, Business or Literal • Your own word list for names and technical terms • Notes and a journal in the app, spoken as clean text • Preview long messages first and shorten them with Make shorter • Typing still works: a built-in typing layer with numbers, punctuation and accents

HOW IT WORKS 1. Open Dicteer and follow the steps. On the last screen you see where your speech goes and tap Allow and start. 2. Add Dicteer in Settings > General > Keyboard > Keyboards and turn on Allow Full Access. 3. Tap the dictate key in an app. iOS does not let a keyboard use the microphone, so Dicteer briefly opens its own app. Tap the back link at the top left and speak. 4. Tap stop. Your text appears. After that the microphone stays ready for 2 minutes by default, so you can keep dictating right away. You choose how long, or turn it off immediately.

PRIVACY • Nothing is processed until you tap the dictate key. Being ready is not recording. The orange dot from iOS shows that the microphone is open. • After your consent in the app, audio and text go through the Dicteer server of WAMELINK to Mistral, an AI model in the EU (data centers in the EU and EFTA), for speech recognition and cleanup. Your word list and style examples are sent along. Without consent you can only type. • Dicteer does not store recordings or text. Your recording is deleted from your device after processing. What Mistral keeps is decided by Mistral under its own terms. • Without internet, your iPhone recognizes the dictation itself with Apple's speech recognition, as long as you have words left. Live preview while you record a note happens on your iPhone. • Your notes stay on your iPhone only. • The free allowance needs no account. Dicteer only keeps hashed identifiers and word counts for it. • The keyboard needs Full Access to read the result from the app. Typing works without it. The keyboard does not send typed or dictated text anywhere. Only if you send a report yourself via Feedback does a short technical report go out, without any text.

FREE, PRO AND PRICE • Every week you dictate 2,500 words for free, about 18 minutes of talking, with no account and no payment details. Your allowance refills every Monday. The word list holds 50 words. • When your free words are used up, you can keep typing until Monday, or keep dictating with Dicteer Pro. • Dicteer Pro: dictation without a weekly limit and a word list without limits. EUR 9.99 per month or EUR 89.99 per year (prices in the Netherlands, including VAT). There is no free trial. • Payment is charged to your Apple Account at purchase. The subscription renews automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. • You can manage or cancel anytime in Settings > your name > Subscriptions. • Fair use with Pro: up to 10 hours of dictation per month and 70 minutes per day. Above that, you can keep typing until the next day or month.
