Live Sound Toolkit is for the engineer who runs the show: a small-venue tech, a touring FOH or monitor engineer, or the person who brings the PA for the band.
TONIGHT Open the app to the show you're working: venue, band, stage plot, input list, checklist progress and the ring-out notes for the room.
TUNE THE ROOM A guided room tune with pink noise from the phone or the console. Measure 1/3-octave bands at 3 to 5 listening positions, compare the average with a flat or house target, and get cut-first EQ moves for a 31-band or 15-band graphic or a parametric, in plain words: "Cut 3 dB at 250 Hz, boomy". Then ring out the mains and monitors: the app spots feedback as it builds, names the frequency and note, suggests a notch and logs it to the venue. Save the session to the venue and share a PDF with the band or the house engineer. It's a guide, not a lab rig: the phone mic rolls off below about 50 Hz and above about 15 kHz.
MEASURE • SPL meter: A, C and Z weighting, Fast and Slow, Leq, max and peak. Calibrate it against a sound level meter or an acoustic calibrator. Until you do, it reads in dBFS and says so. • Analyzer: octave, 1/3-octave and FFT views, peak hold, freeze, and the strongest peak with its note. Log a feedback frequency to the venue in one tap. • Tone generator: sine, square, triangle, sawtooth, white and pink noise, log sweeps and bursts, left, right or both. • Noise exposure: allowed time at a level and the daily dose from load-in to load-out.
SYSTEM • Delay and alignment: distance to milliseconds and samples, corrected for air temperature, and the delay for a front fill or under-balcony speaker • Delay towers: delay and main-system level at each tower • SPL and coverage: level at distance from sensitivity and power, and the width a coverage angle spans • Speaker load: cabinets per channel, bridged loads and power per cabinet • Cable runs: speaker cable loss, damping and the right gauge; mains voltage drop; line-level roll-off • Power: watts to amps on single or three-phase, and a circuit planner that flags loads over 80 % of the breaker
SOUND • dB maths: add sources, take away background, ratios, dBu, dBV and volts • Gain structure: from mic sensitivity and SPL to preamp gain and headroom • Frequency and wavelength, mic spacing and the 3:1 rule, reverb time (Sabine and Eyring) and room modes
SHOW • Bands: input lists, monitor mixes and a stage plot you drag into place. Export a PDF of the plot and lists, or a CSV of the inputs. • Show log with SPL readings and photos • Ring-out notes per venue • Gear inventory with photos, serials and cases; CSV export • Checklists from advance to load-out
Feet or metres, °F or °C. Every tool has a short guide and ⓘ notes on the fields; formulas and limits are cited in the app. Works offline. No account, no ads, no tracking.
A phone microphone is not a calibrated instrument: SPL readings are estimates and not for compliance. Mains power must be planned and connected by qualified people to local code.
