Motiv – Image Viewer

Motiv is an image and gallery viewer for the Mac. It displays images where they are, in your folders: no library, no import, no sign-in. Motiv never modifies a file.

Folders instead of a library • Folders you granted access to and favourites in the sidebar, subfolders as a strip above the thumbnails • Thumbnails in any size, sorted by name, capture date, modification date, size or kind • Optionally with all subfolders, grouped by folder • Find an image by typing the beginning of its name

Viewing • Single image view with zoom, fit to window, width or height • Rotate and flip in the view only – the file stays unchanged • Just the image in full screen, without bars or pointer • Trackpad: page, rotate and zoom with two fingers

Comparing • Two to four images side by side, four as 2 × 2, with linked zoom • Same area or same pixels, even at different resolutions • Toggle on top of each other, blend smoothly or compare with a split line

Information • File, image, capture and EXIF, location, description and all metadata in the sidebar • Quick info right in the image • Motiv opens locations in Maps on request

Pleasant every day • Videos appear with a still frame and open in their default app on double-click • Open in Preview, Open With, Share, Show in Finder • Printing, one image per page, rotated and scaled to suit the paper • If Sensitive Content Warning is switched on in macOS, Motiv displays affected images blurred • JPEG, PNG, HEIC, TIFF, GIF, WebP, AVIF, SVG, RAW and everything macOS can read

Honest and open • Free and open source under the Apache License 2.0 • No ads, no tracking, no analytics • Motiv itself never connects to the internet; only the voluntary tip goes through the App Store. Your images and settings stay on your Mac • If you like, you can support the development with a voluntary tip. It unlocks nothing; Motiv stays completely free.
