Parchmatte: Paper Screen

Glossy screens shine. Paper doesn't. Parchmatte lays a fine matte grain over your Mac's display so a page of text reads like print instead of glass, and adds a warm Page Light tint when the room goes dark.

Paper the whole screen, or just the one window you're reading in. The paper follows that window as it moves, resizes, switches tabs and goes full screen, and every window can have its own texture and light.

Eye-care guidance from the American Academy of Ophthalmology and OSHA names glare and harsh brightness as the common reasons screens feel tiring. Parchmatte takes the shine off without blurring text or shifting colors. Whether it feels better is up to your eyes; most people decide in about a minute.

What's in it • Eight textures: Parchmatte, Fine Grain, Chalkboard, Woven, Imprint, Soft Leaf, Felt and Denim, each with strength and softness controls • Six Page Light tints, Candlelight to Aurora, with adjustable glow and strength • Schedules: sunset to sunrise, sunrise to sunset, or hours you pick • Snooze, per-display control, excluded apps, pause on battery • A hotkey for everything, so the menu is optional

Clicks and typing pass straight through the paper. Parchmatte collects no data, needs no account and asks for no permissions, not even Screen Recording. It is about 4 MB and open source.
