In breve
Entoma: Insect Field Guide is a field guide to insects found in gardens, at the roadside and around campsites, split into regional volumes for Europe, North America, East Asia, and South and Southeast Asia. It is aimed at people who want to identify insects and learn about them, and it can identify insects from a photo with a ranked list of possible matches. It stands out for its lookalike pages, which explain how to tell easily confused species apart.

Entoma is a field guide to the insects you actually meet, in a garden, at the roadside, around a campfire. It comes in volumes, one per region: Europe, North America, East Asia, and South and Southeast Asia, each growing month by month. It reads like a well-made natural history book: every species has its own coloured page, a museum-quality plate and one fact worth remembering. The rest is there if you want it.
READ IT LIKE A BOOK The guide follows nature's own order. Orders open with a cover, families follow, and each species sits on its own page. Scroll down to read on, pull the page sideways to jump to the next order, or open Contents to go straight to any order, family or species.
IDENTIFY FROM A PHOTO Take a photo or pick one from your library. Entoma returns a ranked list with a confidence for each match, never a single guess. When the match is in the guide, one tap opens its page. When it is only certain at family level, it says so.
TELL LOOKALIKES APART Many insects have a double. Each page lists the species it is often confused with and says exactly how to tell them apart. Put the two side by side to compare size, habitat, months and what each means to people.
EVERYTHING ON ONE PAGE Size, when adults are about, where to find it, colours, whether it is active by day or night, and a calm, plain note on whether it can sting, irritate skin or should not be eaten. Every entry is checked against published sources.
VOLUMES The app opens the volume for where you are. Switch on the atlas whenever you like; search and identification look through every volume, so a photo from a trip still finds its page.
SPIDERS TOO The guide closes with the spiders you meet in house and garden, with a calm, plain word on the few that can bite.
FILTER AND FIND Narrow the guide by habitat, colour, size, time of day or month. Search by common or scientific name.
ENTOMA PRO The guide is free and unlimited. Pro adds abilities: - 50 identifications a month (without Pro, three free each month) - A journal of your sightings, with date, place, notes and photos, exported to CSV - Compare any two species side by side
Pro is available as a yearly or monthly subscription, or as a single lifetime purchase. Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the period, and can be managed in your Apple account settings.
PRIVACY No accounts, no ads, no tracking. Your saved species, journal and settings stay on your phone.
