FoxKeys is an iPhone app for practising sight-reading on a piano. It shows a note, the user plays the matching key on their own piano, and the microphone checks the result. Notes are introduced gradually, and shaky ones come up more often. Its listening happens only on the phone, with nothing recorded or stored.

It started as a personal project: the developer wanted to get back to the piano after years away – and used FoxKeys to brush up his sight-reading in no time.
HOW YOU LEARN • Landmark notes first: start from three anchor notes and read from there instead of counting lines. • Every new note is introduced before you're quizzed on it. • The next note only joins once all current ones are solid. • Speed matters: a note counts as learned only when you play it right and fast. • Shaky notes come up more often, solid ones less. • Missed? Your note appears in red next to the target, so you can spot typical mix-ups.
