Be useful is an app for learning about and exploring humanoid robotics. It combines in-depth knowledge, a 3D robot simulation and a career section with jobs related to humanoid robots. The app is available in 34 languages.

KNOWLEDGE • 13 well-sourced chapters on the design, actuators, sensors, control, ROS 2, simulation and safety of humanoid robots • All 13 chapters are free, even without an account • Your learning progress is saved on your device • Interactive calculators for the worked examples and quiz questions for every chapter, with reviews at growing intervals; plus a learning path, full-text search, saved facts, a daily goal and a final exam with certificate • Live experiments with your phone’s sensors: see tilt, drift and sensor fusion in action and keep a robot balanced • Project workshop: design your own humanoid and check with the formulas from the chapters whether knees, battery, hand and balance are up to the task • Your own robot AI: train a neural network right on your phone – by imitating your play (with DAgger teacher correction) or by trial and error (reinforcement learning) – and test it with domain randomization on a “real robot”

SIMULATION • Try humanoid robots in 3D with the MuJoCo physics engine • Watch movements and tasks directly on your iPhone, iPad or Mac • House and garden on 320 m²: tasks indoors and outdoors, an A* path planner, an autopilot, a ghost of your best time and 9 knowledge stations with quizzes, a daily challenge and a final exam • With Pro Max: connect a real robot via ROS 2 (rosbridge) in your local network, or try it with a virtual robot; with a live map, goal navigation, a drive recorder and the ROS graph • With Pro Max: drive the robot by tilting your phone with a dead man’s button and see its joints live with the real limits from its robot description (URDF)

Plus, Pro and Pro Max are available as monthly or yearly subscriptions. Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase. The subscription renews automatically unless it is cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You can cancel at any time in your Apple Account settings. Deleting your Be useful account does not cancel a subscription.

An internet connection is required for sign-in and syncing; recently loaded content stays visible offline. The number of jobs and members depends on user content.
