Mountoon Learn: Kids ABC & 123

Mountoon Learn is a calm ABC and 123 app for ages 2 to 5. One visit a day: a letter with Ollie the owl, or a number with Momo the bear. A visit is about three quiet minutes, and then it really ends. Thirty-seven visits in all: every uppercase letter from A to Z, and every number from 0 to 10.

Your child touches the screen. You say the short line. That is the whole app.

HOW A LETTER VISIT GOES • Meet. The letter stands in the night sky as a constellation. A touch makes it glow and say its name. Beside it is the letter's own thing in a lantern circle: the moon for M, an egg for E, a tent for T. • Draw. Star to star, and only the next star is live. One short chant a stroke. "Draw it for me" is on every page. • Find. The letter waits beside one other letter your child has already met, and the other one names itself out loud. • The end. "Ollie is resting. See you tomorrow."

HOW A NUMBER VISIT GOES Momo shows the numeral, draws it star by star, and counts real things one at a time: in a line, on a dice face, or in a ten-frame. A touch lights the nearest one, the chime steps up, and the moon counter follows. Zero is an empty basket. On four to seven, from age four, Momo asks for a number of berries, and there is no way to give him too many.

OPEN TO EVERY FAMILY Seven whole visits, always, with or without a purchase: the letters A, M, S and T, and the numbers 1, 2 and 3. They are complete visits, not samples. The other thirty open behind the grown-ups gate.

THE FRIENDS Ollie the owl holds the letters and Momo the bear holds the numbers. Lumi the bunny, Niko the fox, Pippa the panda and Bubbles the whale turn up as a guest on the letter of their own name.

THE VOICE Sixty-nine short recordings sit inside the app. It says one word at the moment of a touch: the letter, the number, or the thing your child touched. It never instructs, praises or narrates. The letter sounds stay yours to say, and the Parent area has a Sounds guide with a row for every letter. It is on to begin with and follows your device's silent switch. With VoiceOver running the app says nothing at all.

NOTHING CAN BE GOT WRONG By construction, not by kindness. A touch either lights something up or does nothing at all. No red, no buzzer, no "try again", no score, no streak, no timer, and no praise either. After about seven quiet seconds the thing to touch glows softly on its own.

FOR THE GROWN-UP • No ads. No tracking. No accounts. No analytics. Nothing about your child leaves this device. • Works offline: every visit, every picture and every spoken word is inside the app. • Your child never meets the shop. No price and no countdown on any screen a child can reach; a letter that is not open simply wears a small padlock, glows when touched, and says its own name. • Purchases, settings and every outbound link sit behind a grown-ups gate: a sum spelled out in words. • An optional age band (2, 3, or 4-5) leaves out the pages that would be too early. • "Turn pages for me", so a small child reaches the ending without having to find the arrow. • Switches for the voice, the chimes and the touch feedback. • One app for iPhone and iPad. Built for VoiceOver, Reduce Motion and larger text.

WHAT THIS VERSION DOES NOT HAVE Uppercase letters only: there is no lowercase. No tracing with a finger; a letter is drawn by reaching its stars in order. No colors, no shapes, and no numbers above ten. English only.

HOW THE OTHER THIRTY OPEN One purchase, made by a grown-up behind the gate: Mountoon Learn Lifetime Unlock. It opens all 37 visits, it never renews, and it works with Family Sharing on iPhone and iPad. The App Store shows the price in your own currency before you confirm anything; no price is written into the app, and your child is never shown one.
