PNEUMA Granular Synth

PNEUMA turns your voice into an ethereal instrument.

Record a breath, a hum or a sung note, or import any sound, and play it with your fingers. Move left and right to scrub through the recording. Rest a finger and it blooms into a pad. Switch to grains and the sound fuses into a soft cloud of long, overlapping grains wherever you touch.

Play in tune with your own voice. PNEUMA finds the note in your recording and builds chords on it: each finger plays the root, third, fifth and seventh of the slot's scale, and twelve sympathetic strings ring along. Choose from 35 scales, from the major and minor modes to blues, maqam, gamelan, just intonation, quarter tones, 19 and 31 equal steps and Bohlen-Pierce. Or set the root yourself.

Four sounds, four instruments. Load up to four sounds. Every slot has its own trim, gain, tuning, scale, pad sound and effects, and one touch plays all of them at once, each in its own way.

Multi-Touch and tilt. Use as many fingers as you like. Moving up and down on the pad and tilting the device drive the controls you choose for each slot, from these 12:

Pad sounds. A slot's pad can be the recording itself or one of six vintage-style synths: String Machine, Warm Poly, PWM Chorus, Brass Swell, Tape Choir and FM Glass. The synth plays your chords, vocoded by your recording, so it still breathes like your voice. Blend mixes the two.

Hold, loop and play over it. Turn on hold to keep a chord sounding after you let go. Tap LOOP to record up to a minute of what you play, tilt and all, then play over it. Open a standard MIDI file and PNEUMA plays it with your own sounds.

Play it from a keyboard. Connect a USB or Bluetooth MIDI keyboard, play over Wi-Fi, or play PNEUMA from another app. Velocity, pitch bend, sustain and MPE are supported, and the mod wheel, aftertouch and breath control move the same controls as your fingers and the tilt.

Use it in your music app. PNEUMA is also an Audio Unit (AUv3) instrument for Logic Pro, GarageBand for iPad, AUM, Cubasis and Loopy Pro, with MPE and automatable parameters. On a Mac with Apple silicon, the same purchase works in Logic Pro, GarageBand, MainStage, Ableton Live 11.3 or later and REAPER. Configs you save in the app open in the plugin, and your project remembers PNEUMA's sounds and settings.

Record everything you hear to a 24-bit, 48 kHz WAV and share it. Save up to 12 configs, each with all four sounds, their settings and your loop.

Runs on a 48 kHz audio engine, with a limiter that keeps the level in check however many fingers you add.
