Dlaczego tak przewidujemy: A thoughtful native Mac gRPC client with proto parsing, Keychain-backed secrets, and clear error reporting addresses a real niche well.

W skrócie

istek - gRPC Client is a native Mac app for sending gRPC requests to servers you choose. It loads services through server reflection or from a dragged-in .proto file, and it shows responses, headers, and failure details side by side. Its standout feature is that it has no account, no analytics, and only connects to the servers you call.

O aplikacji

istek sends gRPC requests. Type a server address, pick a method from the sidebar, edit the request as JSON and press Command-Return. It is a native Mac app written in Swift and AppKit, so it opens in a fraction of a second and stays out of the way.

LOAD YOUR SERVICES • Server reflection: connect, and your services and methods appear in the sidebar. • No reflection? Drag a .proto file onto the window or open it from Finder. The parser runs inside the app and handles proto2 and proto3, imports, nested messages, enums, oneof, map fields and the well-known types. Nothing else to install.

EVERY KIND OF CALL • Unary, server streaming, client streaming and bidirectional streaming. • Each method carries an arrow for its shape, so you know what a call does before you open it. • Stream messages arrive in a transcript, each with the time since the one before. • Command-Period cancels a running call. Shift-Command-E half-closes a client stream. • Copy any call as a grpcurl command.

SEE WHAT FAILED • error means the server answered with a gRPC status code. fatal means the connection never opened, so the server never saw the request. • Response headers and trailers sit beside every response, failed calls included, so the request id and error details are one click away. • Status is written as a word next to its colour. • History keeps every call with its status, latency and server. Double-click a row to send it again.

CREDENTIALS • Mutual TLS with your own CA bundle, client certificate and key. • Mark a variable secret and it goes to the macOS Keychain; a header uses it as {{token}}. The workspace file keeps only a reference. • Turn off certificate verification and a banner stays at the top of the window until you turn it back on.

PRIVATE BY DEFAULT • No account and no sign-in. • No analytics. The only connections istek opens are to the servers you call.

ENVIRONMENTS AND VARIABLES • Write {{token}} or {{host}} in a request body, a metadata value or the address. Loading an environment swaps every value at once. • A request with a missing variable is stopped before it is sent, and names the one that is missing.

ALSO • gzip or deflate request compression; compressed responses are read automatically. • Tabs, request history and a command palette. • Full keyboard operation.

NOT SUPPORTED • gRPC-Web and Connect: istek speaks native gRPC over HTTP/2. • Command-line runs and scripted tests.

Requires macOS 14 or later on a Mac with Apple silicon.
