Rankfile - Chess Scanner

Rankfile turns a photo of a chess diagram into a position you can work with. Point the camera at a book, magazine, PDF or screen; Rankfile finds the diagram, reads the pieces, and gives you an editable board. Copy FEN, share it, or open the position in Lichess analysis.

SCAN • Photograph a page or pick photos from your library, up to 20 at a time • Several diagrams on one page are found and read together • Whose move? Rankfile reads captions such as "White to play", move numbers and W/B markers next to the board

CHECK AND FIX • Squares the model is unsure about are marked; tap one to see its alternative and confirm with one tap • Tap any square to change the piece on an on-screen board • Impossible positions (missing king, pawn on the back rank, both kings in check) are flagged.

BOOKS • A copy of Capablanca’s Chess Fundamentals is included so you can try the reader immediately • Import your own chess PDF and read it page by page • Diagrams on the page are detected as you read; tap one to open it on the board

LIBRARY • Save positions with a title and note, search by text or FEN, and revisit them later • Print a diagram or share several as a PDF

ANALYSE AND SHARE • Copy FEN or share it to any app • Open the position in Lichess analysis (in the browser)

Made for chess books, PDFs and screenshots: printed diagrams, digital boards, puzzle pages. Not for photographing a physical 3D board.

Privacy: photos and PDFs are processed on your device and never leave it. Rankfile does not collect any data.
