Turn your DRM-free EPUBs, PDFs, Word documents, Markdown and text files into chaptered audiobooks on your Mac. Choose a narrator, preview your own text, customize pronunciations, and export for personal listening. Optional on-device proof-listening compares narration against your text and highlights passages to review.

Your books and audio are processed locally. Internet access is needed for approved model downloads and App Store purchases. English narration downloads up to 400 MB; Mandarin up to 700 MB. Optional proof-listening downloads up to 3 GB for English or 4 GB for other supported languages. Additional storage is needed for audio.

Free includes the first three chapters, up to 45 minutes, of each book. Pro unlocks unlimited conversion, batch queues and multi-voice dialogue through a yearly subscription or a lifetime purchase. Requires Apple Silicon and macOS 15 or later. Scanned PDFs and unusual formatting may need review. Hearthbook does not remove DRM.
