Octavox: Cloud PBX Softphone

Octavox is a virtual phone system for companies — a cloud PBX hosted in a data centre in Sofia. This app is the softphone employees use with it, turning your iPhone into an extension on the company phone system.

The app is for people whose company already runs its telephony on Octavox. The account comes from your company: an administrator creates your extension and gives you the sign-in details. There is no sign-up in the app, and the app does not work without an account. The app itself is free; the phone system service is sold separately to the company, under a contract.

WHAT THE APP DOES

Calls on the company number. Place and receive calls through the company phone system. Colleagues and customers reach you on the business number, and that is the number they see, not your personal one. Alerts on the lock screen. An incoming work call appears like an ordinary call, with the caller's number or directory name. In-call controls. Hold, mute and speaker. Transfer. Announce the call to a colleague first, or pass it straight through. Call park. Leave a call in a shared slot and pick it up from another phone or another extension. Call Flip. Move a call that is already running between this app and your desk phone, without hanging up. Call notes. Write a short note against a call while you are on it. Company directory. The extensions in your company, with presence, so you can see who is free before you ring. History and voicemail. Received, missed and placed calls, and your voice messages. Internal chat. One-to-one and group messages with colleagues. Conference calls. Bring several people into one call. Light and dark appearance, following the system setting. CarPlay. Answer and place calls from the car display.

Some things depend on how your company's phone system is set up. Video calls work only if the feature is enabled for it. Internal chat and call recording work only if your administrator has them switched on, and you see only the recordings your administrator makes available to you. What you can see and do depends on the permissions set for your extension.

HOW TO SIGN IN

1. Ask your administrator for your sign-in details. 2. Open the app and choose SN/Domain Name. 3. Enter the domain, user name and password you were given. If you received a QR code instead, scan it with the camera. 4. Allow notifications. Without them, incoming calls will not ring. 5. Allow the microphone. Without it, the other party will not hear you.

The app also asks for access to your contacts, so that it can show names on incoming calls. You can refuse any permission and change it later in Settings; the function that needs it will then be limited.

BEFORE YOU INSTALL

You need an account from a company that uses an Octavox phone system. Without one there is nothing to sign in to, and the app cannot create an account for you. The app needs an internet connection, over Wi-Fi or mobile data. Calls travel over the internet, so quality depends on the connection at both ends. The app does not replace your mobile operator or ordinary telephone service, and it must not be relied on for emergency calls. We cannot guarantee that emergency numbers such as 112 can be reached through it. In an emergency, use the phone app on your device or a landline. The interface is in English. Our support replies in Bulgarian.
