In short

Escapement, Watch Timing is an iPhone app that analyzes the ticking of mechanical watches with Swiss lever escapements to measure rate, beat error and amplitude. It keeps a history of readings for each watch in a collection and can export PDF, CSV or JSON reports. Audio is analyzed on the device, and the app needs no account. Co-axial and other special escapements are not supported in this version.

About

Listen to your mechanical watch.

Escapement turns your iPhone into an acoustic timing instrument for mechanical watches with Swiss lever escapements. Measure rate, beat error and amplitude, compare readings, and keep a history of your collection.

A CLEAR VIEW OF EACH MEASUREMENT Three readable measurements, signal stability and a tick trace show your progress. Choose a 30, 60 or 90-second capture. When the relevant events cannot be resolved reliably, that measurement remains unavailable.

FROM YOUR FIRST READING TO SIX POSITIONS A first-run tutorial explains preparation and positioning. An optional assistant guides single readings and six-position sessions. Each watch keeps its beat rate and confirmed lift angle.

YOUR COLLECTION AND ITS HISTORY Create watch profiles, compare results and share PDF or CSV reports. Measurement details separate observed spread from the digital model range. JSON export preserves diagnostic information.

PRIVATE ON YOUR IPHONE No account, advertising or subscription. Audio is analyzed on the device. Raw recordings are not stored permanently. Your data leaves the app only when you choose to share a report or use system features such as device backup.

Measurement requires a suitable tick signal in a quiet environment. Amplitude requires the movement's correct lift angle. Co-axial and other special escapements are not supported in this version. Model ranges are not a guarantee of absolute measurement accuracy.
