About

Filiation is a family tree for iPhone and iPad with nothing to sign up for and nothing sent anywhere. Open the GEDCOM file you already have, or start from yourself, and the whole family is on one continuous canvas: pinch from a single card out to every generation at once, and back, without the tree ever being cut into pages.

FREE TO DOWNLOAD, NO PERSON LIMIT

Build a tree of any size for free: unlimited people, dates, places, photos, sources and notes, GEDCOM in and out, the hourglass, Ancestors and Descendants views, the People list and the inspector. Your research is never locked in.

Filiation Pro is one in-app purchase for the fan chart, the timeline and chart export to PDF and PNG. No subscription, no paid upgrades: buy it once and the updates are included.

KEY FEATURES

• The Whole Tree, One Canvas — The hourglass puts one person in the middle, ancestors above and descendants below, and re-centres on anyone you tap; on iPad, Back and Forward retrace the people you visited. Pull back and the entire tree is a single picture you can pan across, not a window of a few generations.

• Every Family Fits — Second marriages, half-siblings, adoption and single parents are drawn as they are, not squeezed into a chart that expects one couple per child.

• Dates as the Registers Wrote Them — "About 1887", "before 1900", "between 1872 and 1875", or a phrase exactly as the record gave it. Cards show the year; the inspector shows the date in full.

• When the File Disagrees With Itself — A mother born after her child, a marriage a century early: Filiation marks the people involved and says which record contradicts which, so you know what to look up.

• What Is Still Missing — A ? on a card counts what the record lacks: a name, a birth or death date, parents or a source. The inspector lists each one, so you know where the research goes next.

• Sources Behind Every Fact — Cite a source on any fact from its editor, new or already in the tree, or straight from a missing-source gap. Rename a source once and every fact that cites it follows.

• Fan Chart and Timeline — Ancestors as a fan you can turn, and lives laid out along the years with their marriages and the history they lived through. (Pro)
