In short

Gljivar - mushroom forecast is a utilities app that scores every 10 km cell from 0 to 100 for mushroom growing conditions, today and the next seven days, across nine countries in Central and Southeast Europe. It is aimed at foragers planning trips, with a guide to 222 species and local picking rules. One notable point is that it does not identify mushrooms, and it states that the forecast describes conditions rather than promising a find.

About

Gljivar shows where and when a trip to the forest is worth it.

Every day a model weighs the rain and temperature of the past weeks against the time of year and the climate zone, and scores every 10 km cell from 0 to 100 — for today and the next seven days. The map covers nine countries: Croatia, Slovenia, Italy, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Hungary.

WHAT THE APP DOES

• An outlook map for four groups — porcini, chanterelles, parasol and morels • Eight days, today included, with a score for each day • A rain layer: estimated rainfall over the last 7 or 14 days • Save your spots and get a nudge when their forecast rises • A guide to 222 species: photos, season, habitat and what each one is mistaken for • Picking rules for all nine countries — daily limits, minimum size, protected species, permits • The poison centre number for the country you choose • Six languages: English, Croatian, Slovenian, Italian, German and Hungarian — pick one in Settings • Works offline: the last downloaded forecast and the guide, with one photo per species, stay on the device

WHERE THE DATA COMES FROM

Rain and temperature are model estimates, not weather-station measurements: ERA5-Land and ERA5 reanalysis (Copernicus/ECMWF) for the past weeks, the latest ECMWF runs for the last few days, and the DWD ICON-EU and ECMWF forecasts for the days ahead. The forecast is refreshed daily.

PRIVACY

No account needed. The app is free with ads, and you can remove the ads for a year or for good. The app never sends your location to our server. Ads are served by Google AdMob, which, with your consent, may use your advertising ID and approximate location (from your IP address). Your saved spots stay on the phone.

IMPORTANT

Gljivar does not identify mushrooms and cannot confirm what you picked. The guide is an aid to learning, not a verdict on edibility. Never eat a mushroom unless you are completely sure; when in doubt, ask a mycologist. The forecast describes growing conditions; it does not promise a find.

SUBSCRIPTION AND TERMS

Ad removal is offered as a yearly subscription (€9.99) that renews automatically unless cancelled in your Apple Account settings at least 24 hours before it ends, or as a one-time purchase (€35).
