Why we expect it: The hinge-as-controller concept is clever, and the description explains its controls and difficulty levels with real care.

In short

Hold the Angle is a game where the phone's hinge is the only control: you open or close the device until an arm sits inside a shrinking band on a dial, then hold still until the timer finishes. It is aimed at people with foldable phones, though an on-screen slider lets other phones play too. One detail that stands out is that every second of shaking adds to your score, and narrow bands pay far more than wide ones.

About

Hold the Angle turns your phone’s hinge into a test of nerve.

A target lands on the dial as a dashed line. Open or close the phone until the arm reaches it, then hold it there — dead still — while the hold runs down. Every round the band you have to stay inside gets narrower.

HOW IT WORKS

Targets land anywhere between 25 and 165 degrees, and never close enough to where you already are to be free. As the hinge nears the target the ticks quicken, and once the arm is inside the band the hold begins. Wobble and the hold bleeds away, and every second of shaking is charged to your score. Stay still to the end and the round is yours.

Let the clock run out on a round and you lose a life. Three lives, and then the run is over.

THE BAND SHRINKS

Round one is generous. Every round after that the band narrows, down to a floor that keeps the game winnable, and each hold is asked to last a little longer than the last. Narrow bands pay far more than wide ones, so a long run is worth much more than a lucky one.

BUILT FOR FOLDABLES

Unfolded, the dial sits on one side of the crease and the numbers on the other, so your hands never cover what you are reading. Folded, the whole game fits on the cover screen. Either way, the hinge is the only control.

THREE DIFFICULTIES

Relaxed — a 24 degree band to begin with, a one second hold, and twenty seconds a round.

Steady — a 16 degree band, a 1.3 second hold, and a steadier hand required.
