In short

JapanAI: Living in Japan is a travel app that uses the camera and AI to explain menus, garbage labels, documents and drugstore packages in plain language. It also offers garbage-collection calendars for 38 municipalities, weather for all 47 prefectures, a conversation coach, a trip planner and a daily fortune. What stands out is that it needs no account and does not use location, and photos are not stored on its servers.

About

A pocket helper for living in and traveling through Japan. No account needed — point your camera at anything confusing and let AI explain it.

■ Lens Photograph a menu, a garbage-sorting label, a document or a drugstore package and get a plain-language reading of what it says and what to do next. ・Five modes: garbage, documents, menu, drugstore, free shot ・Results are kept as on-device history, with one-tap clear ・Photos are used only for that reading and are never stored on our server

■ Life Choose your municipality to see its garbage-collection calendar and the Japan Meteorological Agency forecast for today and tomorrow, with a source link on each card. Collection dates currently cover 38 municipalities across Hokkaido, Saitama, Tokyo, Kanagawa, Fukui and Okayama — other areas say so on screen, and weather is available for all 47 prefectures. We never use location; only the region code you pick is sent.

■ Conversation coach Practise six real scenarios — izakaya, station, konbini, business meeting, emergency, tourist info — with an AI role-playing the staff. Voice input and Japanese text-to-speech included, so you can say the next line out loud.

■ Trip planner Pick a destination, number of days and interests (anime pilgrimage, onsen, food, nature, history, shopping, scenic views) and get a timed itinerary you can open straight in Maps.

■ Omikuji A daily fortune with lucky colour and number, also shown in a home-screen widget.

■ Pricing The free plan includes 20 AI uses per day (a photo reading counts as 2). The Pro plan (yearly, auto-renewing) gives you 300 AI uses a day across every feature. ・Price is shown on the App Store purchase screen ・Unless cancelled, the subscription renews for the same price within 24 hours before the end of the period ・Auto-renewal can be changed or cancelled any time in your device's settings app, under your account's subscriptions

■ Privacy ・No accounts, no location, no advertising identifiers ・Photos are used only for inference and are not stored on our servers ・Audio is transcribed first; only the text reaches our backend ・All history stays on your device and can be deleted any time Privacy policy: https://japanai-api.pages.dev/legal/privacy Terms: https://japanai-api.pages.dev/legal/terms

■ Please note AI answers can be wrong or out of date. Confirm garbage-collection days, opening hours and medicine instructions with the municipality, shop or pharmacist before acting on them.
