About

PierRat is a shore-fishing guide for New York Harbor. It answers the two questions that actually decide a session: when to go, and where to stand.

WHEN TO GO A bite forecast scored 0-100 from the live tide, the light, the barometer and the wind, with the reasoning shown rather than hidden. You get the best stretch in the next 24 hours, and the same answer broken out for each species in season, because a porgy day and a striper day are not the same day.

WHERE TO STAND Over 200 mapped spots across the five boroughs and the Jersey side: piers, jetties, bulkheads and park shorelines, plus tackle shops, charters and launches. Each one carries how to get there by subway or bus, where to park, what hours the gate is open, and what has been coming out of it.

WHAT TO TIE ON Forty rigs built component by component, with the exact spec for every hook, leader, weight and lure, matched to the species, the water clarity and how pressured the spot is. The regulations sit next to the rig: size, season and bag limits, and where inline circle hooks are mandatory.

YOUR LOG Log a catch in seconds: species, length, a photo if you have one. Your exact spot is never published. Catches are shifted to a random point inside the surrounding zone and times are rounded before anything is shared, so a post cannot lead anyone back to where you were standing. Every fish you log swims in your profile's tank, drawn at the size you caught it.

THE COMMUNITY A harbor-wide feed, leaderboards by species and by catches, and a Parties calendar where anglers organize their own meetups at public fishing spots.

LIVE DATA, NOT GUESSES Tides and water temperature from NOAA CO-OPS at The Battery. Weather from the National Weather Service. River flow from USGS gauges on the Hudson, Passaic and Bronx. Water quality from the NYC DEP harbor survey. Fish consumption advisories from the NYS Department of Health.

No ads. No trackers. No analytics.

A note on safety and the law: Parties are organized by users, not by us, at public spots and at your own risk, and we do not vet anyone. Agency data can be late or wrong, so verify conditions before you rely on them. New York's Recreational Marine Fishing Registry is free and required from age 16. Follow NYSDEC size, season and bag limits. In an emergency, call 911.
