In short

Riper: Fruit Ripeness Check is a utilities app that takes one photo of a banana, avocado, tomato, mango or pear and describes its ripeness in words, such as Not ripe yet, Ripe or Very ripe. It is for people who find fruit colours hard to tell apart. It runs entirely on the phone with no account, no internet and no photos leaving the device, and it says when it cannot give an answer.

About

Riper reads the colour of one fruit and tells you in words how ripe it looks.

When colours are hard to tell apart, a banana's yellow and green or a tomato's red and orange can look the same. Riper says it for you.

HOW IT WORKS Choose the fruit in Settings: banana, avocado, tomato, mango or pear. Fill the box on screen with it, on a light surface, in good light. Confirm "I have a banana" (or your chosen fruit) before each photo, then press Check ripeness. Apples are not supported; do not choose Banana for an apple. Riper takes one photo, reads the colour of the skin inside the box, and compares it with that fruit's typical ripening colours.

The result is headed with your selected fruit and "colour estimate". Assuming your selection is correct, it describes the chart range: Not ripe yet, Ripe or Very ripe, plus the colours it saw. Your confirmation is a declaration, not verified identification. A wrong selection can still give an estimate; the app cannot reliably reject wrong species.

IT SAYS WHEN IT CAN'T TELL If too few pixels are readable or too few colours match the chosen chart, Riper gives no answer. It cannot identify fruit or reliably reject other objects: matching paper, packaging or backgrounds can give an answer. Fill the box with the fruit.

COLOUR ONLY Riper sees skin colour, nothing else. It cannot feel firmness, smell sweetness or tell taste, and its ripening charts are typical colours, not measured ripeness. Some fruit ripens with little colour change: many pears, some mangoes, and green-skinned avocados. Riper says this on the answer screen for those fruits.

WHAT IT WILL NOT DO Riper never says whether food is safe to eat. It does not judge meat or anything medical, it is not a colour-vision test, and it does not recognise what is in the photo: you tell it which fruit it is.

THE SAME PHOTO GIVES THE SAME ANSWER There is no AI and no randomness. The reading is fixed colour arithmetic on your phone.

WORDS, NOT COLOURS Every answer is written out. Nothing in the app relies on colour alone.

NO ACCOUNT, NO SUBSCRIPTION, NO INTERNET Pay once. There is nothing else to buy. Photos are analysed on your phone and never leave it. No account, no tracking, no ads, and it works with no signal.
