Shot and Tell takes a screenshot and lets you annotate it

Why we expect it: Numbered markers paired with a written legend make screenshot feedback clear for both people and AI agents.

In short

Shot and Tell takes a screenshot and lets you add numbered markers, arrows, and boxes, each paired with a typed legend line. It is aimed at people sending screen feedback, bug reports, or prompts to AI agents, colleagues, and customers. One standout is that copying can place the image and its legend on the clipboard together, and redaction blocks are flattened into the exported image.

About

Shot and Tell takes a screenshot and lets you annotate it. Drop a numbered marker on something, draw an arrow at it, or box a whole section off. Type a line against each number, and you get back one image with the legend beside it.

WHAT IT’S FOR

“The button on the right — no, the other one, above the total” is a sentence nobody should have to write. Put a number on the thing instead, say what’s wrong with it underneath, and there is nothing left to misread.

Who’s reading it doesn’t change much:

An AI agent gets the picture and the words together. A number on the screenshot and the same number in the prompt says exactly which part you mean, so it understands you straight away.

A colleague gets the design feedback, the bug report or the “check this before it ships” as one image — and every point already has a number to reply to.

A customer or a supplier gets “here’s the screen, here’s the field I mean”, with anything that isn’t their business blacked out before the image leaves your Mac.

HOW IT GOES

1. Press ⌃⇧S from any app, click the Dock icon, or pick New Capture from the menu bar. Drag out a region, click a window, or take a whole screen. Space swaps between dragging and picking a window, and a magnifier shows the exact pixel under the crosshair so you land on an edge rather than near it. There’s a 3, 5 or 10 second timer for when you need a menu open first.

2. Mark it up. Drop a numbered marker, drag out an arrow, or box off a whole area — each one gets the next number in the sequence. The cursor lands in the legend row the moment a mark does, so you type the description straight away and move on.

3. Drag redaction blocks over anything that shouldn’t leave your machine.

4. Copy & Close puts the finished image on the clipboard and saves a PNG. Paste it into a prompt, a pull request, a ticket, a chat or an email. Paste into a text field instead and the words arrive on their own.
