Bamberg Audio Guide

Walk Bamberg's UNESCO-listed old town in ten stops, from the cathedral hill to the house of E.T.A. Hoffmann.

Georg and Lena tell you why the Bamberg Horseman still has no name, and why the cathedral holds the only papal tomb north of the Alps. They take you under the Heavenly Garden of St. Michael, a ceiling of more than 580 painted plants, back on view since May 2026 after 14 years of restoration, and to a bishop's tomb people crawl through to cure a bad back.

Down by the river: the balconies of Little Venice where fishermen dried their nets, the Schlenkerla tavern, first recorded in 1405, where the beer tastes of beechwood smoke, and a town hall that, legend says, the citizens built on an island of their own. Look for the cherub's leg sticking out of its painted wall.

And along the way: an exiled king of Greece in the rose garden, and a failed bandmaster who later wrote The Nutcracker.

Walk at your own pace, with no group and no schedule. Narrated in English, German and Spanish.
