Notebook: Paper Puzzle Games

Notebook is a small shelf of classic pencil-and-paper games. Every one is drawn by hand: pencil strokes, crossed-out digits, a red margin line, a torn page edge. Open it, pick a game, play a round.

TAKE TEN The notebook numbers game. Cross out pairs that match or add up to ten, sideways or down. Stuck? Copy what's left to the end of the sheet and keep going. Clear the page to win. Hints, a timer and a mistake limit are there if you want them.

BULLS & COWS The original code-breaking game. Guess the secret number: a red dot for a digit in the right place, a ring for a right digit in the wrong place. Three, four or five digits, with or without repeats.

TIC-TAC-TOE Three in a row, the way everyone learns it. Play an easy, smart or perfect bot, or hand the phone to a friend. The score for the series lives in the margin.

SPROUTS A few dots and a pencil. Draw a line between two dots, then put a new dot on it. Lines can't cross, and no dot can have more than three lines. Whoever makes the last move wins. Play the bot or a friend.
