You buy it once. There are no ads, no in-app purchases, no subscriptions, no accounts and no sign-up. The game never talks to a server and collects nothing about you, so it works on a plane, in the metro, or anywhere else with no signal.

Fair warning: most people never finish it. That is rather the point.
